FREE WEBSITE PROJECT has two free workshops to offer local groups -- Attract more foot traffic to your next event

TO NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS:  Do you need a way to "pull in more foot traffic"?
How about a free workshop?   I'll do these workshops at no charge.
Lawyers do work "pro bono" and teachers can, too.

Steve McCrea
How can I assist your organization?
FreeWebsiteProject.blogspot.com    FREE WEBSITE PROJECT

Hello
I'm a high school teacher with a free website program.

It's a program that is offered in California and I've started a project here in Florida.  It's free.

FIRST  PROPOSED WORKSHOP:
"Get a free website in under 30 minutes"
Anyone with a gmail account can make a free website
A typical account has 15 gigabytes free for building a site.
Students in California use the free site to display their school work and projects (to show colleges "here's what I did to earn that 3.6 grade point average")
People who want to present their work or who want a free space on the internet can use Google Sites for

This workshop allows you to use your gmail account to set up a free website.

This presentation is for:
- Teenagers (preparing for college)
- Anyone who has a resume (the website can display the resume)
- Authors and artists who want to create a free DIGITAL PORTFOLIO
 - Parents who want to capture their child's school work (preserve posters and video performances in one place)

It takes 23 minutes to set up a free website. NEEDED:  Wifi for the audience to log into. People in the audience can upload their materials and set up their personal sites during the workshop.

==============

SECOND PROPOSED WORKSHOP

"Get Your Book Published on Amazon for under $10"
Amazon's self-publishing website, Createspace, lets you turn a word document into a book with a barcode, ready to sell in any bookstore.   Steve McCrea, a high school teacher, has published over 35 books using this method, helping his students get their names on Amazon's list of authors.

The 30-minute workshop allows audience members to set up their Createspace account and prepare a document for publication ... printing in black and white (under $5 for a book of 128 pages) or color (starting at $15).

Intended audiences:
-- students who want to put their poems and journals into print
-- unpublished writers and authors
-- families that want to create an album of photos from a trip.   A typical photo album of 120 photos on 60 pages can be created for under $15.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME

You can see these materials at   www.TINYURL.com/showyourwork

and www.TINYURL.com/sunbook10
(publish a book for under $10)

"What can I put in my digital Portfolio?" -- Become a Google Local Guide and keep adding points with photos and reviews

LINK
Students sometimes wonder "What can I put in my digital portfolio that will show my interests and show that I contribute to the community?"
TinyURL.com/sunLocalGuide

Do a search:  how many photos to add and reviews to increase my local guide score

Here's the reply:

Points, levels, and badging

Find this info at a quick link:  http://tinyurl.com/googlelocalguide
Levels are determined by the number of points you've earned. Receive 1 point for every place you review, photograph, add, edit, or provide additional information for on Google Maps. Earn up to 5 points per place. Unlock benefits along the way.
  • Level 1 = 0-4 points
  • Level 2 = 5-49 points
  • Level 3 = 50-199 points
  • Level 4 = 200-499 points
  • Level 5 = 500+ points
Please note your points and level can take up to 24 hours to update in the Google Maps for mobile app. Points do not expire, though they may decrease if a review is removed for violating our policies. Contribute to Google Maps on a consistent basis to earn the most Local Guides benefits.

Keep contributing to receive all program benefits. For some benefits, we give priority to Local Guides who are consistently contributing each month.

This leader, Linda D-H, explains how math worksheets can sometimes lead students to lack understanding of the concepts behind the worksheets.

The point of this blog post is to encourage students to take time to spread several links for an organization, such as this link to a Youtube, a link to the Facebook and the Link to the Twitter account  and a link to an ARTICLE

For example, here are places that I clicked

If you support Portfolios as a way to show what you can do with what you know, (that's Tony Wagner's phrase), then click your LIKE and SUBSCRIBE to Learning Policy Institute.  Why?  Because LPI can help provide legislators with the legistlation language that is needed:

Attn:  Linda Darling-Hammond, president and CEO,
Learning Policy Institute

Hello

I'm looking for model state legislative language to promote alternative assessment and portfolios.

I've heard that both Rhode Island, Massachusetts and New Hampshire have rules or procedures to allow portfolios to be used in assessing students.

Can a student get a high school diploma through portfolios?   What state laws might allow that?

I'm seeking legislation to propose to my state legislator.

Steve McCrea

THANK YOU

HER REPLY:

Hi Steve,
Rhode Island has legislation that authorizes graduation by portfolio for all students.  Here’s a summary of their latest iteration.   http://www.ride.ri.gov/studentsfamilies/ripublicschools/diplomasystem.aspx#16441117-performance-assessments
Because of recent politics they have added test options but the portfolios remain.  We can dig up the original legislation if that would be helpful to you and could potentially work on some model legislation.
In New Hampshire, graduation is a local decision, so I don’t believe there is state legislation, even though many districts are using performance assessments or portfolios.
Let’s stay in touch.
Regards, Linda

Now you see why I support Learning Policy Institute.

I show my support in my blog.   I can show my blog link in my digital portfolio.

Blogging is good for teaching students to write better

THIS IS A REMARKABLE WEBSITE for writers and tachers.

You can see why blogging makes sense.  Classwork turns into "real" work because the words are shared on the Internet.
